With the help of a local high school woodshop class and a generous donor, the Voyage Home Museum in Riverside recently received two new displays.

Highland High School students created a new captain’s chair to accompany the museum’s fan-favorite exhibit — the bridge of the USS Enterprise.

Museum President Michael Meinders contacted the class with an idea for the chair, and they created the pieces for him to assemble.

Although bare now, the chair will soon receive a makeover to match the ship’s bridge, complete with functioning buttons, lights and sounds.

A few feet away from the new chair sits the museum’s other new display – one with a bit more history.

A desk featured in various episodes and installments of the series, once belonging to Capt. James T. Kirk himself, now resides in the museum.
