Windows in downtown Riverside will receive a makeover just in time for Trekfest on June 28 and 29.

Green tape, bottles of paint and sheets of plastic were sprawled across the sidewalk in front of buildings along First Street midmorning June 12 as the project began.

On the overcast morning, three painters got to work between bursts of sprinkling rain.

Among those painters were Adrie Clendineng, a student from Highland High School; Clara Trees, an art teacher at Highland High School; and Riverside City Councilperson Jeanine Redlinger.

Nearly 30 windows throughout the downtown area are set to be painted with Star Trek-themed artwork in the weeks leading up to the annual celebration.

The project was organized by Redlinger, who hopes the project will liven up the downtown.

“Everyone downtown was very cooperative,” said Redlinger, who spoke with building owners while planning the project.
