Plans for a dog park in Riverside are in motion, thanks to Riverside Eagle Scout candidate Matt Butler.

The project has been in the works since it was proposed to the City Council at its June 3 meeting.

City officials agree that a dog park would be a welcome addition to the town and its many dog-owning residents. It would be located in the northeast corner of Hall Park.

“We were in support of this project from the start,” said Councilperson Robert Schneider Jr. at the council’s Aug. 5 meeting.

Funding for the project is currently the main concern for council members, but an approved plan must be in place before any fundraising can begin, in compliance with project guidelines set by the Boy Scouts of America.

Butler provided the city with a list of expenses in his plan for the park, which estimated that the total cost for the project would be $7,325.
