The Lone Tree Wellness Center celebrated its one-year anniversary with a gala event June 18.

Herky, the University of Iowa mascot, was the big hit with both youngsters and adults as he played basketball, slapped high fives and posed for photos with adoring fans.

Outside the Wellness Center kids could get their faces painted while inside there were giveaways, demonstrations and tours.

More than 100 people attended the two-hour event.

The Wellness Center opened its doors on June 18, 2018.

Funding for the $3.4 million facility came from a variety of sources, including a bond issue, the school district, an Enhance Iowa grant, the Washington County Riverboat Foundation and the city of Lone Tree.

“It was very much a community driven project,” Crawford said. “It wasn’t just one group doing it.”
