Lone Tree brought two wrestlers to the Cougar Invite at Ackley-Geneva-Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock on Saturday and both came away with medals.
Bryce Thompson took another first-place finish, getting pins in three of his four victories on the day. The five man round-robin bracket saw Thompson improve his record to 29-4 and take first place.
Thompson met AGWSR’s Ali Gerbracht (27-9) in the de facto finals in the final round and used a five-point opening period to control the match. After that a scoreless second led to Thompson taking the top position in the third period.
Gerbracht reversed Thompson in the third to make it 5-2, but no further points came in the match.
All of his earlier matches came by fall.
Tim Mills was the other wrestler in attendance at the 195-pound bracket. His four person round-robin bracket featured three wrestlers with winning records including the Class 1A No. 2 Chase McCleish.
Mills was pinned in the first period in his first two matches, but pinned Matt Muller from Rockford in the second period to take third place.
