Highland will play host to the Southeast Iowa Super Conference wrestling tournament this weekend, featuring nine ranked wrestlers in total.
Highland returns one conference champion from last season, Brady Hahn at 145 pounds.
Dan Burton placed second at 160 pounds last season, but hasn’t wrestled since Jan. 10 when he was injured in a match against Pekin. Cory Stewart was second at 138 pounds last season. Bradley Rodgers was fourth at 195 pounds last season, Caedon Harbison placed sixth at 120 pounds, Geoff Streb was sixth at 132 pounds, Jordan Sosa placed sixth at 152 pounds and Cael Yeggy placed fifth at 170 pounds. All have moved up weight classes this season except for Streb, who has remained at 132 pounds.
Two weights at the tournament have multiple ranked wrestlers in the brackets, 106 pounds and 138 pounds.
At 106 pounds, two freshman are highly ranked in their classes. Blaine Frazier, a Notre Dame-West Burlington freshman, is ranked No. 2 in Class 2A by both IAWrestle and The Predicament and Marcel Lopez, a New London freshman, is ranked No. 4 in Class 1A by both publications as well.
At 138 pounds Jarod Kadel is ranked No. 3 in Class 1A and Zach Hammes from Pekin is ranked Class 1A No. 10 by the Predicament.
Lone Tree’s Bryce Thompson was third at 106 pounds last season. Tim Mills wrestled last season, but did not place.
The conference tournament is slated to start at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Highland.
