On Tuesday night, Lone Tree will celebrate the one-year anniversary of the opening of the Lone Tree Wellness Center.
A number of activities and giveaways will highlight the event, which runs from 6-8 p.m. at the Wellness Center.
“I hope the people in Lone Tree realize that this is a very nice facility,” Lone Tree school Superintendent Ken Crawford said. “We’ve tried to meet the needs of everybody.”
Giveaways will include three gift baskets with items donated by various local businesses and organizations, as well as 30 water bottles.
One special drawing will be for a tall table emblazoned with the Lone Tree logo donated by Iowa Prison Industries.
“That drawing is for our original members,” Crawford said. “It’s a special thank you for the people who first stepped out.”
There is also a kids coloring contest and a visit from Iowa Hawkeyes mascot, Herky the Hawk, from 6-7 p.m.
Crawford is hoping for a strong turnout from the community.
“If you haven’t been in, get a look,” he said. “If you have, thank you for your support.”
The Wellness Center opened its doors on June 18, 2018.
Funding for the $3.4 million facility came from a variety of sources, including a bond issue, the school district, an Enhance Iowa grant, the Washington County Riverboat Foundation and the city of Lone Tree.
“It was very much a community driven project,” Crawford said. “It wasn’t just one group doing it.”
