Lone Tree students packed the gym on Thursday afternoon for a dance marathon.
Modeled after the University of Iowa’s Dance Marathon that raises millions of dollars each year, Lone Tree senior Ashley Musser is heading the local efforts.
“I thought it would be cool to have a schoolwide one,” Musser told the Lone Tree school board the night before the big event.
Before the dance marathon started more than $3,500 had been raised. Musser predicted more would be raised.
“We’ll be dancing in gold,” Musser said, referring to gold T-shirts that were sold as part of the fundraiser.
The dance marathon ran from 1:30-5:30 p.m. with the elementary school students participating from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Elementary Principal Amber Jacque described the dance moves of the younger students.
“We don’t call it dancing; we call it running around,” Jacque said.
