1933 - 2019

Ruben J. Yoder, 86, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at his home in rural Kalona. Funeral service was held Saturday, May 25, 2019, at the Cephas Yoder residence in rural Kalona.  Burial was in the North Gingerich Cemetery. 

Ruben J. Yoder was born April 21, 1933, near Kalona, Iowa, the son of John S. and Lena (Miller) Yoder Jr.  In his youth he accepted Christ and was a faithful member of the Old Order Amish Church. Ruben worked as a hired hand for many area farmers.  

Ruben is survived by four sisters: Ida Yoder of Kalona, Ann Mae (Lester) Coblentz of Percy, Ill., Emma (Cephas) Yoder of Kalona, and Nina (William) Bontrager of Millersburg, Ind.; two brothers: Simon (Mary Susan) Yoder of Kalona and Dennis (Judith) Yoder of Kalona; two stepsisters: Martha (Lonnie) Yoder of Arthur, Ill. and Elizabeth Ann (Roy) Beachy of Kalona; five stepbrothers: Edwin (Viola) Schrock of Arcola, Ill., Sam (Susie) Schrock of Tuscola, Ill., Daniel (Dena) Schrock of Cuba, Ill., Jerry (Magdalena) Schrock of Kalona, and Henry (Esta) Schrock of Sarasota, Fla.; 40 nieces and nephews; and many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Lydia, Mary, Amelia, and an infant; three brothers: Albert, Henry, and an infant; three stepbrothers: David, Fred and Jake Schrock; and four nieces and nephews.

The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is caring for Ruben and his family.
