1943 - 2019

Katie A. (Yoder) Nisley, 75, died March 11, 2019, at her home near Kalona. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019, at the Eldon Nisley residence at 5236 Sharon Center Road Southwest in rural Kalona.  Burial will be in the Peter Miller Cemetery.  Visitation will be held begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday and will continue all day on Wednesday at the Eldon Nisley residence. 

Katie was born Aug. 26, 1943, to Amos and Katie (Hochstetler) Yoder near Shipshewana, Ind.  She was baptized on her faith in Jesus, in the Old Order Amish Church and remained steadfast until her death. 

On Nov. 21, 1963, she was united in marriage to Eldon Nisley near Shipshewana, Ind., who survives.  They lived in matrimony for 55 years.  In January of 1973 they moved with their family to Kalona.

To this union were born eight children; Wayne (Verda) Nisley of Lockridge, Iowa, Norma (Samuel) Yoder of Kalona, Nelda (Vernon) Miller of Riverside,  Naomi (Wilford) Miller of Iowa City,  Pauline (Mervin) Ropp of Kalona, Pollyanna (Eli) Miller of Riverside, Howard (Laura) Nisley of Kalona, and Katie (Emery) Yoder of Lockridge; 67 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren; five brothers: Melvin, Chris, Monroe, Harry and John; and six sisters: Anna, Amanda, Polly, Mary, Martha and Elsie.

Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant grandchild; two infant great-grandchildren; a brother: William; and a sister: Edna.

The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is caring for Katie and her family.
