1931 - 2019

Frances A. Lund, 88, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, at her home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service with burial at the Riverside Cemetery. Frances Arlene Good was born Jan. 7, 1931, in New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Helen (Deeming) Good.  Following graduation from high school, she was united in marriage to H. Ernest “Ernie” Lund on Jan. 15, 1949, in Cedar Rapids.  The couple and then with their family had lived in the eastern Iowa communities of Iowa City, Riverside, Washington, Hiawatha, Marion before returning to Iowa City.  

She worked as a receptionist for Dr. Beckman years ago and was a ceramics’ teacher for more than 25 years.  She enjoyed teaching and sharing her skills, and also in creating and sharing her pieces with family and friends. She won numerous awards for her work.  Frances belonged to Toastmasters, O.E.S. and White Shrine; holding offices in all these organizations over the years.  But near and dear to her heart and soul was her family; she was so proud of them, as they were of her!

Her family includes her children: Chryse (Robert) Nelsen, Frank (Beverly) Lund, Barbara (John) Merline, Jeanne Lund, and Mary (Mike) Knerr; daughter-in-law: Kathy Lund; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by her husband: Ernie; sons: Dale and Steven Lund; her parents;  six sisters; and one brother.
