1949 - 2018

Bonnie Rae Applegate, 68, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at the Halcyon House following a lengthy illness.

Celebration of life services were held Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Interment was at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Washington County Ambulance and Hospice of Washington County. 

Bonnie was born Aug. 10, 1949, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Burton G. and Helen (Basinger) Fox.  She and her sister Connie were the first set of twins delivered by Dr. Nemmers.  She graduated from Highland High School in 1968. She was united in marriage to Robert H. “Bob” Applegate on Feb. 22, 1975, in Riverside, Iowa.

Bonnie was a lifelong resident of Washington.  Following high school she worked at McCleery Cumming Company until 1983.  She assisted her husband on the family farm operation.  She enjoyed staying busy on the farm and she helped with the cattle and the sheep.  She enjoyed working in the garden and taking her produce to the farmers market.  

  She enjoyed doing latchhook, puzzles, painting ceramics and playing cards.  Bonnie was a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau and enjoyed going to Farm Progress Shows and the Iowa State Fair with her husband.  She loved her canine companions, Sam and JoJo.  

She is survived by her brother: Jerry (Marie) Fox of Lowden, S.C.; sister: Linda (Brad) Hartwig of Marion, Iowa; brother-in-law: Larry (Sue) Applegate of Washington; brother-in-law: Roger Reed of Washington; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2013; twin sister: Connie in 2017; and one niece: Cynthia Fox Beebe.
