The Iowa High School Athletic Association released playoff pods for Class 1A and Class 2A, giving insight into each area team’s path to the state tournament.

Class 2A teams were put into 16 six-team districts, where the winners of each district will play in a substate matchup to decide the state qualifiers. Mid-Prairie was placed in a district with River Valley Conference South foe Iowa City Regina (11-2) and then four teams from the SEISC including Central Lee (1-12), West Burlington (7-5), Mediapolis (10-3) and Danville (7-8).

Regina will be the favorite for the district, ranked No. 9 by the BCMoore computer rankings. Mid-Prairie is next up at 46th in Class 2A. They are followed up by Mediapolis (56th), Danville (58th), West Burlington (62nd) and Central Lee (89th).

In Class 1A, Highland (9-5) and Iowa Mennonite (8-5) were placed in the same 10-team district this year. The likely top-seeded team from that district is Calamus-Wheatland at 12-2 and 20th in Class 1A according to the BCMoore rankings.

Other teams include Alburnett, Springville, Belle Plaine, Lisbon, Iowa Valley, English Valleys and Cedar Valley Christian.

Lone Tree is one of eight SEISC teams in their district that also features Keota. The district’s top seed will be currently undefeated New London (14-0). The district also has Notre Dame, WACO, Pekin, Keota, Lone Tree, Holy Trinity Catholic, Cardinal and Winfield-Mount Union.

The winner of district seven (IMS, Highland) and district eight (Lone Tree) will play each other for a spot at the state tournament.

Full playoff brackets will be released closer to the start of the playoffs on Feb. 11.
