Discussion of the potential annexation of the Shiloh church property into Kalona city limits will continue with a committee meeting Wednesday night.

Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh said that about 30 people are expected to attend the first committee meeting, which will take place at Shiloh.

There will be a facilities tour at 5:30 p.m., followed by the committee meeting.

“We’ll start with introductions and background,” Schlabaugh said. “We’ll have a discussion about how we got to this point.”

That will be followed by discussion about setting subsequent meeting dates and scheduling an open house.

“Then, Shiloh will give a brief update,” Schlabaugh said.

After Shiloh’s update, there will be a presentation about the voluntary annexation process.

“There are a lot of misconceptions and questions about the process,” Schlabaugh said. “We’ll go through the process.”

Following the presentations, committee members will break out into groups for further discussions.

Schlabaugh said he has reached out to a number of groups to participate in discussions.

Those include the Washington County Board of Supervisors, Washington County Public Health, Washington County Emergency Management, the Mid-Prairie Community School District, Washington County Conservation Board and the YMCA.
