On Sunday night, Leah Marek was crowned the 2019 Washington County Fair Queen.

The contest, held at the Washington Community Center, featured seven contestants.

“It was really exciting,” Marek said. “I’ve been dreaming of this since I was a really little girl, and I’ve always looked up to the Washington County Fair Queen. I’m really excited to be that role model this year.”

Marek is the daughter of Tim and Heather Marek.

She attends Washington High School and is a member of the Jackson Jets 4-H Club.

Haley Sweeting, who attends Highland High School, was named first runner-up. She is the daughter of Art and Shari Sweeting.

Madison Fishback, the daughter of Nathan Fishback and Rachel Fishback, was named Miss Congeniality. She attends Washington High School.

Other contestants were Anna Duwa, Leah Evans, Savannah Hall and Cierra Miller.

This was the 25th year of the Washington County Fair Queen Contest.

To mark the occasion, 15 previous winners, dating back to 1994, were in attendance and were recognized during the pageant.

Miss Iowa Teen USA Kristen Hovda served as emcee of Sunday’s pageant.
